Abstract

Academic ethics are the basic values that define the social and scientific responsibilities within the framework of freedom of science, which should be applied most carefully among the stakeholders of the team formed by all academics. Academicians, who are in direct interaction with the society and have the potential to directly affect the society, have to establish a mechanism that can directly control themselves. It is important and necessary for professionals from different fields of science to develop a set of professional ethical principles covering academic

and applied activities. This requirement will increase the quality of academic and applied activities in universities in the long run. In this article, academic ethics will be defined first, and then the Hacettepe University Academic Ethics Committee process will be shared. The lessons to be learned from this experience will be instructive.
